How Sony CCD cameras work:
The image of the subject is focused on the CCD chip through the lens, CCD accumulates the corresponding proportion of charge according to the strength of light, the charge accumulated by each pixel is controlled by video timing, moving out point by point, after filtering and amplification, forming a video signal output. When the video signal is connected to the video input of the monitor or TV, you can see the same video image as the original image. When CCD is working, millions of pixels of light-sensing generate millions of charges, all of which are converted by a "amplifier" to form an electronic signal, so the amplifier becomes a "bottleneck" that restricts the speed of image processing, with all The load is output by a single channel, just like thousands of troops passing through a bridge, when the amount of data occurs signal "congestion", and hdV format just needs to process a large amount of data in a short period of time, therefore, the use of single CCD in civilian-grade products can not meet the needs of high-speed hd reading data.
How CMOS cameras work:
CMOS operates with a separate amplifier conversion output for each pixel, so CMOS does not have a "bottleneck" problem with CCD, can process large amounts of data in a short period of time, output high-definition images, and therefore can meet the needs of HDV (high-definition digital cameras). In addition, CMOS requires much lower voltage to work than CCD and consumes only about 1/3 of the CCD. As a result, the battery size can be smaller, making the camera smaller. Moreover, each CMOS has a separate data processing capability, which greatly reduces the volume of integrated circuits, which also allows for the miniaturization of high-definition digital cameras.
The CCD device is made of silicon and is sensitive to near-infrared, with a spectral response that extends to about 1.0um. Its response peak is green (550nm) and the distribution curve is shown in the figure on the right.
